THE PROBLEM

There are two ways to buy a ski jacket in Australia.

Spend $1,400 on a jacket designed to hit a margin target, signed off by people who won't be wearing it in August sleet.

Or spend $300, get through a season and a half, and find out in August what a wetted-out face fabric feels like at 2pm when the snow's gone heavy.

Neither of those is a jacket problem. It's a decision problem. Most ski jackets get built to a number first and a mountain second — and the corners that get cut are the ones you only notice in bad weather, because the person cutting them wasn't going to be out in it.

THE SOLUTION

Toray Dermizax™

Most waterproof membranes work by being full of holes — microscopic ones, too small for water, big enough for vapour. They work well until the holes clog with body oils and sunscreen, or the face fabric wets out and stops the transfer.

Dermizax™ is solid. No pores. It moves moisture by absorbing vapour on the inside and releasing it on the outside, and it does that faster the harder you're working, because the process runs on the heat and humidity you're generating. Skinning uphill is when most membranes struggle. It's when this one performs best.

Moisture movement

Dermizax™ moves vapour by molecular diffusion. Microporous membranes rely on a network of tiny pores.

Movement

Built to flex with a stretch face fabric. Gore-Tex comes in several versions and they don't all move the same way.

The trade-off

Dermizax™ prioritises stretch and active moisture transport. Gore-Tex families often lead on paper with very high waterproof-rating figures.

Gore-Tex comes in several versions and they don't all perform the same. This is why we chose Dermizax™ for Drop 01 — not a claim that one membrane wins everywhere.

A bigger waterproof number doesn't make you drier.

Waterproofing is measured by how tall a column of water a fabric holds back before it leaks. Nothing in skiing generates the kind of pressure that makes that top-end number matter — sitting in slush on a chairlift, kneeling in wet snow, a hard day of rain on the lift line, are nowhere near it. Past a certain point you're comparing numbers no ski day will ever test.

And the number isn't free. In a porous membrane, waterproofing and breathability pull against each other — push one up and the other comes down. Which matters, because on most ski days the water that makes you wet comes from the inside. You're generating it. A jacket that wins the spec sheet and traps your own sweat against a midlayer has lost the afternoon.

We picked a membrane that breathes hardest exactly when you're working hardest, and is waterproof well past anything a mountain will throw at it. That's the trade we'd make every time.

CONSTRUCTION

Built to hold up to a close look.

The zip garages. How the hood sits over a helmet. The finish inside the cuff. Some of it — like the taping on every seam — sits on the inside, where you'll only notice it in weather. We shoot the rest up close because a jacket at this price should survive being looked at properly.

Fully taped, every seam

Full taping is a labour step plenty of brands skip, sealing only the seams they think will leak. Every seam here is taped with 20 mm tape. It costs more to build. It's the difference between dry and mostly dry.

100 g insulation, throughout

The same weight cuff to collar. Simple, consistent warmth across the whole jacket.

One colourway per jacket

OG Green on the VZ, Midnight on the Y-Day, Honey Gold on the 2.8. A small run in one colour is what a non-restocking drop looks like when you're honest about it.

WHO'S MAKING IT

A small team who actually ski.

Eddy and Soph both taught at Thredbo — which is years of full days on snow, in every kind of weather, wearing the kit for a living rather than a long weekend. Eddy went on to study ski resort operations in Nelson, BC, and worked seasons at Whistler and Fernie. Soph shoots everything you see here.

That's not a brand story, it's just who's here. It's also why we're confident in what we've built — these have been skied properly, in every condition an Australian season throws up, before we asked anyone else to buy one.

NO RESTOCK

One run. Then we make something else.

Drop 01 won't be made again. Not a limited edition of something we also sell year-round — it's a single production run, and Drop 02 is a different range on different fabric.

It's a deliberate way to build. The money goes into the membrane and the taping rather than into carrying stock, and the jacket you buy doesn't turn up in an outlet in March at half what you paid.

When a size goes, it's gone.

THE GUARANTEE

Sixty days from delivery to decide. If it's not right, send it back.

Not "unworn with tags attached" — that's useless for a jacket. You can't tell whether a jacket works from your living room. Take it out, ski it properly, put it through actual weather. If it doesn't hold up, we'll refund you in full and cover return shipping within Australia.

Three-year warranty on materials and workmanship. One year on zips, velcro and trims — those are wear items, and we'd rather tell you that up front than bury it. This sits alongside your rights under Australian Consumer Law, which nothing here limits.

THE SBHY FOUNDERS CLUB

Buy a Drop 01 jacket and you're in the Founders Club.

The Founders Club closes when Drop 01 does. It's the only range that carries it — buy from a later drop and you're a customer, not a founder.

Founders Club members get first access to every drop we make, 48 hours before anyone else, and 10% off full-price SBHY for as long as we're making it. You'll also get asked what you think — Drop 02 is on the table now, and we'd rather hear it from people who've skied ours than guess.

SBHY Wordmark Hat — free ($59.95)
SBHY Mountain Tee — free ($79.95)
Founders Club status, for good

Both are added to your cart automatically. The tee comes in the size that matches your jacket — email us and we'll swap it if you'd rather a different size or colourway.

THE OFFER, ADDED UP

Here's exactly what Founders Club membership is worth today.

Not a percentage off a sticker price — the actual numbers. Every Founders Club member gets the jacket, the hat, the tee, and the standing that comes with buying before Drop 01 sells through.

QUESTIONS

Useful answers.

Will Drop 01 be restocked?

No. Drop 01 is one production run. When it sells through, the next release will use a different range and potentially a different fabric platform.

What if the size is wrong?

You've got sixty days from delivery — not sixty days on snow. If it isn't right, send it back worn and we cover return postage anywhere in Australia. Tell us your height, build and what you normally wear and we'll recommend a size before you order.

How does your sizing compare to what I already own?

Close to standard. Soph is 165 cm, usually a size 10, and wears women's M. Eddy is 183 cm and wears men's L. If you're between sizes, size up — these are cut to layer over a midlayer, not over a t-shirt.

Why isn't this Gore-Tex?

Dermizax™ is a non-porous membrane that moves moisture by diffusion rather than through pores, so it performs best exactly when you're working hardest. It also flexes with a stretch face fabric, which is what makes the 2.8 and Y-Day move the way they do.

How long does delivery take?

Free express delivery within Australia, dispatched in 1–2 business days. We also ship to New Zealand, Canada, the UK, the US and the EU — international orders may attract duties on arrival.

What does the warranty cover?

Three years on materials and workmanship, one year on zips, velcro and trims. Alongside your rights under Australian Consumer Law.

Will this go on sale later?

No. Drop 01 is a single production run and won't be remade — there's no end-of-season clearance coming, because there's no next season of this exact jacket.

STILL THINKING?

We get it.

Leave your email and we'll send the fit guide — what Eddy and Soph actually wear, how to pick a size you won't send back, and which of the three jackets suits how you ski. When Drop 02 lands you'll hear before anyone else, and if a size you wanted comes back through returns, we'll tell you.

P.S. — This is the only run of Drop 01 there will be. When it's finished we don't make more, we make the next thing. Sixty days from delivery to ski it and change your mind, three years of warranty behind it, and a hat and tee in the box either way.
